Everyone is welcome to join us on 9/11 for this very special and moving ceremony.
On September 11th 2012 we began hosting the Bells of Remembrance Ceremony at the Parkville Fire and Police Stations to honor the sacrifice of all 1st Responders who gave their lives trying to save others. As thousands of office workers, visitors and tourists dissented down the smoke and darkened stairwells of the Twin Towers, hundreds of Firefighters, Police Officers and EMT’s rushed up the stairwells to evacuate the buildings and get everyone to safety.
At 9:58 am the South Tower began to collapse, trapping or killing everyone in the building and surrounding area. At 10:28am the North Tower began to collapse, in total 424 First Responders gave their lives that September morning.
At 8:46 am Firefighters and Police Officers begin to toll the bell a total of 424 times, once for each of the 343 FDNY firefighters, 8 EMT’s, 1 fire patrolman and 72 law enforcement officers who never made it home to their families.
From 2012-2015 Brother David Schlatter, Franciscan Friar (OFM) graciously loaned us one his many bells from the Remembrance Bell Project that he envisioned to honor his Brother, Friend and Mentor Father Mychal Judge FDNY Chaplain who was killed on 9/11. It was Brother David whose inspiration inspire us to create Maryland’s 9/11 Rolling Memorial.
